Bitcoin OTC in Las Vegas

Las Vegas generates a great deal of demand for large crypto execution — gaming money, real estate, business exits, and a steady stream of arrivals realising positions after establishing Nevada residency. What it does not appear to have is much in the way of physical OTC infrastructure to serve it.

Where the demand comes from

Southern Nevada produces an unusual concentration of the kind of wealth events that generate large crypto transactions.

Gaming and hospitality. An industry that creates substantial individual wealth and a professional class comfortable with risk and with large sums.

Real estate. A market that has produced significant liquidity events over the past decade, particularly in the master-planned communities on the valley's western and southern edges.

Business exits. Nevada's corporate structure and tax position make it a common domicile, and exits generate exactly the lump sums that end up partly allocated to digital assets.

Tax migration. Nevada has no personal income tax against California's top marginal rate of 13.3%. A meaningful number of people relocate here specifically to realise a large position, and that transaction — often six or seven figures — is precisely an OTC use case.

Established holders. People who bought early, held through several cycles, and now need to sell a portion without moving the market against themselves.

The infrastructure gap

Given all of that, you would expect Las Vegas to have a visible crypto OTC presence. As far as we can establish, it does not.

There is no cluster of trading-floor offices, no Las Vegas equivalent of the private-client crypto desks found in some other financial centres, and no obvious local institution that positions itself as the OTC venue for southern Nevada. Searches for a physical desk here surface national and international providers rather than local ones.

We think there are three reasons.

OTC does not require physical presence. The business is conducted by phone, chat and wire. A desk in New York or San Francisco serves a Las Vegas client exactly as well as one on Sahara Avenue would, and with better liquidity.

Licensing is per state, not per office. A desk needs a Nevada money transmitter licence to serve Nevada residents, and it needs that whether or not it has an office here. There is no regulatory advantage to a local address.

The gaming industry keeps its distance. The institutions with the deepest local relationships to high-net-worth individuals are casinos, and they are regulated in ways that make crypto involvement complicated. Our gaming page covers why.

What people actually use

Three channels, in rough order of how often we hear about them.

Exchange institutional desks

Kraken, Coinbase and other major platforms operate OTC arms serving high-net-worth and institutional clients. If you already hold a verified account, onboarding to the desk is usually the shortest path — much of the diligence is already done, and the settlement relationship exists.

Pricing is competitive, liquidity is deep on major assets, and you are dealing with an entity whose licensing you can verify at NMLS Consumer Access. For most Las Vegas clients this is the sensible default.

National brokers

Firms that specialise in OTC execution and complete onboarding by video call. Geography is irrelevant to them, and several serve clients across all states where they hold licences.

Worth comparing on price, settlement terms and minimum size. A desk whose typical trade is ten times yours will not prioritise you.

Private banking and wealth management relationships

Increasingly, established wealth managers have a crypto execution partner. If you already have a private banking relationship in Las Vegas, that is worth asking about — it may be the least friction available and it keeps the transaction inside a relationship where the diligence is already complete.

Below $50,000, none of this applies A limit order on a professional exchange interface handles most trades people think need a desk, at 0.1% to 0.26% with no onboarding.

Pricing and minimums

Minimums generally start at $50,000 to $100,000. Pricing is typically 0.1% to 0.5% all-in, quoted as a single number rather than a fee plus spread.

What a large Las Vegas trade costs by route. Slippage on the exchange route varies with market conditions.

OTC desk (0.1–0.5%)$100–$500$500–$2,500$2,000–$10,000

The third row is there to make a point. People occasionally ask whether a large amount can be moved through kiosks. It cannot, it would cost roughly 16% if it could, and attempting it across multiple machines would constitute structuring — a federal offence independent of the legality of the funds. Our BSA page covers that.

Always compare a desk quote against the visible market price before accepting. A firm price is only valuable if it is a fair one, and the whole point of the arrangement is that you cannot see the book behind it.

A serious safety warning

This section matters more in Las Vegas than in most cities, and we want to be direct.

Legitimate OTC desks settle by wire. They do not meet you at a hotel. They do not settle in cash. They do not arrange a handover in a parking structure, a private suite or a restaurant.

There is a well-documented pattern, in Las Vegas and elsewhere, of large in-person crypto trades ending in robbery, assault and worse. The victim typically believes they have arranged a legitimate private trade with a counterparty introduced through a mutual contact or an online community. The setup is the crime.

A city with a large transient population, a great deal of cash, private hotel spaces and a reputation for discretion is a poor environment in which to hand a stranger a large amount of anything.

Refuse outright

  • Any in-person cash settlement of a large trade
  • A meeting in a hotel room or private suite
  • A counterparty introduced through a chat group
  • Pressure to complete quickly or discreetly
  • A "desk" with no verifiable licensing
  • Any arrangement without a written agreement

What legitimate looks like

  • A verifiable licensed entity
  • Formal onboarding with real diligence
  • A written agreement and settlement terms
  • Wire settlement to and from bank accounts
  • A named relationship manager who is contactable
  • No urgency and no secrecy

Las Vegas generates substantial OTC demand and has almost no physical OTC infrastructure. Anyone offering an in-person settlement here is doing something a legitimate desk would not.

Casinos and large crypto transactions

Worth addressing because the assumption comes up: casinos do not provide crypto OTC services and are unlikely to.

Nevada casinos are regulated financial institutions with substantial anti-money-laundering obligations of their own — customer identification, transaction monitoring, currency transaction reports on large cash movements. The Nevada Gaming Control Board has not approved cryptocurrency as a wagering medium, and the compliance calculus around handling large crypto positions is considerably more complicated than around handling dollars.

Some properties accept crypto through a payment processor for hotel, dining and retail spending, which is a payments arrangement rather than trade execution. Our gaming and crypto page covers the distinction, and spending crypto in Las Vegas covers where acceptance actually works.

A related caution: attempting to move value between crypto and gaming in ways that obscure its origin is a genuinely bad idea. The compliance apparatus around Nevada gaming is not casual, and the consequences extend well beyond a declined transaction.

Tax on a large disposal

Nevada takes nothing. The state constitution bars a personal income tax, so a large crypto disposal by a Nevada resident attracts no state capital gains tax.

Federal tax applies in full, and at OTC sizes the details matter considerably. Holding period determines whether long-term or short-term rates apply. The net investment income tax may apply. From the 2025 tax year brokers report digital asset dispositions to the IRS on Form 1099-DA.

The residency question is where the real risk sits for this audience. If you relocated to Nevada specifically to realise a position, understand that residency is a facts test — where you actually live, where your family is, where you work, where vehicles are registered, where you vote, how many days you spend in each state. States with income taxes examine these situations carefully when a large gain follows a move, and the burden of demonstrating a genuine change of domicile falls on you.

Get that analysis done before the disposal. Our Nevada crypto tax guide covers the framework; at these amounts, a tax attorney rather than a general practitioner is the right call.

Las Vegas OTC questions

Is there a Bitcoin OTC desk in Las Vegas?
We are not aware of a significant number of dedicated physical crypto OTC offices in Las Vegas or anywhere in Nevada. Large trades from southern Nevada typically run through the institutional desks operated by major exchanges or through national brokers who onboard remotely.
What is the minimum for Bitcoin OTC in Las Vegas?
Generally $50,000 to $100,000. Below that, a limit order on a professional exchange interface is usually cheaper and simpler than any desk relationship.
Can I do a cash Bitcoin OTC trade in Las Vegas?
Legitimate OTC desks settle by wire, not in cash. Anyone offering in-person cash settlement of a large crypto trade should be treated with extreme caution — there is a documented history of robberies arising from exactly that arrangement.
Do Las Vegas casinos offer crypto OTC services?
No. Casinos are regulated financial institutions with their own anti-money-laundering obligations, and cryptocurrency is not approved as a wagering medium in Nevada. Some properties accept crypto through a payment processor for hotel and retail spending; that is unrelated to trade execution.
How long does OTC onboarding take?
Days, sometimes weeks. Identity and entity verification, source-of-funds documentation and agreement review all take time. Open the relationship before you need it rather than during a time-sensitive transaction.
Do I pay Nevada tax on a large OTC disposal?
No state tax — Nevada’s constitution bars a personal income tax. Federal capital gains tax applies in full, and if you recently moved here from a state with an income tax, gains realised before your Nevada residency was established may still be claimed there.

Build the relationship before the transaction

OTC onboarding takes days and sometimes weeks. If a liquidity event, a business sale or a planned post-relocation disposal is coming, open the relationship now — with a licensed entity, settling by wire, with a written agreement. Executing on your timeline is worth the preparation.
