Selling Bitcoin for cash in Nevada

Buying crypto in Nevada is easy. Getting back to dollars is where the friction lives — two-way machines are scarce, their spreads are wide, and their daily caps are a fraction of the buy side. Here is every exit, priced and timed.

The in-out asymmetry

There is a structural imbalance in crypto infrastructure that nobody mentions until you need the money back. Getting dollars into digital assets is a solved problem with a dozen competing solutions. Getting them out is not.

Nevada demonstrates this clearly. Machines that will happily accept $10,000 of cash will often dispense $800. Exchanges that let you buy in ninety seconds place a hold on your first fiat withdrawal. And the moment you want physical currency rather than a bank balance, the options narrow sharply.

None of this is sinister. Cash-out is where the money-laundering risk concentrates, so it attracts more compliance friction. Dispensing physical currency requires a machine to be physically loaded with it. Fiat withdrawal rails are slower than card networks. But it does mean the exit needs planning in a way the entrance does not.

Two-way kiosk$500–$1,200~1 hourLowYes
Exchange → ACH$10–$601–5 daysHighVia your bank
Exchange → wire$35–$85Same dayHighVia your bank
OTC desk$10–$50Same dayVery highWire only

The kiosk row costs between ten and a hundred times the alternatives, and the only thing it buys is paper currency within the hour. If you need a bank balance rather than notes — which is what most people actually need — it is never the right choice.

Exchange to bank: the default

Transfer the crypto to your exchange account, place a sell order on the professional interface, and withdraw dollars to a linked Nevada bank or credit union.

The sell order. Use the professional tab, not the consumer widget — the same four-to-six-times price difference applies on the way out as on the way in. A limit order if you are patient, a market order if you are not. On a $10,000 disposal the fee ranges from about $10 on OKX or Binance.US to about $60 on Coinbase Advanced.

The withdrawal. ACH is free and takes one to five business days. A domestic wire costs a flat fee and lands the same day if you initiate before your bank's cutoff. Above roughly $25,000 the wire is usually worth it.

Getting actual notes. If you specifically need physical cash, withdraw at your branch once the funds land. Any cash withdrawal over $10,000 triggers a routine currency transaction report — normal paperwork, not a problem, and not something to try to avoid. Structuring a withdrawal to stay below the threshold is a federal offence in its own right.

The professional tab works both ways Selling on a consumer widget costs the same premium as buying on one. On a five-figure disposal that difference is real money.

Two-way kiosks: the immediate option

A minority of Nevada machines dispense cash in exchange for crypto, and that minority shrank when Bitcoin Depot deactivated its entire national fleet of more than 9,000 machines in May 2026 following its Chapter 11 filing.

The flow: select sell, enter the dollar amount, verify your identity — expect a full ID scan regardless of size — and the machine displays a deposit address and a redemption code. You send Bitcoin from your wallet, the machine waits for network confirmations, then you enter the code and collect notes.

Three things go wrong regularly, and all three are avoidable with planning.

The cash float. A machine in a convenience store holds a finite amount of currency. Two earlier cash-outs that afternoon and your redemption fails. Morning visits are considerably more reliable for anything above a few hundred dollars.

Confirmation time. During network congestion the wait can exceed forty minutes. If the host business closes in the interval, you are outside a locked door holding a valid code.

The spread. Sell-side pricing runs 5% to 12%, plus the network fee to send the coins. On $2,000 that is $100 to $240 before the miner fee.

Our detailed kiosk selling page covers the mechanics, and the operator guide covers who is still running two-way machines in Nevada.

Cash and financial settlement
The only advantage a two-way kiosk has over an exchange is paper currency within the hour. Everything else about it is worse, and it costs ten to a hundred times more.

OTC for larger disposals

Above roughly $50,000, selling on a public order book starts to work against you. Your own order consumes visible liquidity, the average fill drifts away from the quoted price, and on thinner pairs the slippage can exceed the stated fee several times over.

An over-the-counter desk quotes a single all-in price for the whole block and settles by wire — typically 0.1% to 0.5%, and crucially a firm number rather than an estimate. Minimums usually start around $50,000.

Nevada has essentially no dedicated physical crypto OTC offices, so this runs through the institutional desks operated by the major exchanges or through national brokers who complete onboarding by video call. Expect real diligence: identity documents, entity documents if you are selling through an LLC or trust, and a source-of-funds conversation.

Onboarding takes days, not minutes. If you anticipate a large disposal, start the relationship in advance. Our Nevada OTC guide covers the process and Bitcoin OTC in Las Vegas looks at the local picture.

Realistic timing

Elapsed time from decision to usable funds, on a business day.
RouteBest caseTypicalWorst case
Two-way kiosk20 min1 hourMachine out of cash
Exchange → wire3 hoursSame dayNext business day
Exchange → ACH1 day2–3 days5 days
OTC deskSame day1–2 daysLonger if onboarding

Two variables people forget. Moving crypto from a self-custody wallet to an exchange takes network confirmation time before it is tradeable — usually minutes, sometimes longer. And the first fiat withdrawal from a new account, or to a newly linked bank, frequently carries a security hold that no amount of support contact will shorten.

Tax on a Nevada disposal

Selling is a disposal, and a disposal is a taxable event federally.

Nevada takes nothing. The state constitution bars a personal income tax, so there is no state capital gains tax on the sale. That is a genuine advantage over California and one of the reasons people relocate here.

Federal tax applies in full. Holding period determines the treatment — over a year attracts long-term capital gains rates, under a year attracts ordinary income rates. The difference is substantial and worth planning around if the timing is within your control.

Reporting has changed. From the 2025 tax year brokers report digital asset dispositions to the IRS on Form 1099-DA. The federal government now receives its own copy of information it previously had to request.

Two points that catch people. A kiosk sale is still a disposal even though no brokerage statement arrives — the receipt is your record. And if you moved to Nevada partway through a tax year, your former state may still claim gains realised while you were resident there. Our Nevada crypto tax guide covers both.

Preparing the exit properly

Link and verify a bank account now

Not when you need the money. Verification, micro-deposits and holds all take time that is invisible until it matters.

Complete one small fiat withdrawal

Fifty dollars to your bank. This proves the path works end to end and clears any first-withdrawal hold while nothing is urgent.

Know your platform's wire cutoff

Same-day settlement depends on initiating before both the exchange's and your bank's cutoff times. Find both before you need them.

Keep your cost basis records

Every purchase, with date and dollar amount, including kiosk receipts. Reconstructing this at the point of sale is where errors happen.

Decide your sale plan in advance

What would make you sell, at what price, in what size. Deciding during a volatile week is how people execute badly.

Cashing out questions

How do I sell Bitcoin for cash in Nevada?
Four routes: a two-way crypto kiosk (instant, 5–12% spread, low caps), an exchange sale with an ACH withdrawal (cheapest, 1–5 days), an exchange sale with a domestic wire (same day, flat fee), or an OTC desk above roughly $50,000.
What is the cheapest way to cash out crypto in Nevada?
Sell on a licensed exchange and withdraw dollars by ACH to your bank. On a $10,000 disposal that is roughly $10–$60 in trading fees plus a free transfer, against $500–$1,200 at a kiosk.
Do I pay Nevada tax when I sell Bitcoin?
No state tax — Nevada’s constitution bars a personal income tax, so there is no state capital gains tax. Federal capital gains tax applies to the disposal, and from the 2025 tax year brokers report dispositions to the IRS on Form 1099-DA.
How fast can I get cash for Bitcoin in Nevada?
A two-way kiosk can complete in under an hour if one is nearby, loaded and working. The fastest sensible route is an exchange sale plus a same-day domestic wire, which realistically means a few hours on a business day.
Are there limits on selling Bitcoin at a Nevada ATM?
Operators set their own caps, usually a few hundred to a few thousand dollars a day, further constrained by how much physical currency is actually loaded in the machine. Nevada has no statutory cap.
Can I sell Bitcoin anonymously in Nevada?
Not realistically. Most operators require full identity verification for any sell transaction regardless of size, because the cash-out direction carries higher money-laundering risk. Licensed exchanges verify everyone.

The exit is worth building before the entrance

A verified account with a linked, tested bank connection turns a five-day scramble into a same-day transaction. It costs one afternoon and it is the single most useful preparation available for anyone holding crypto in Nevada.
